I am honestly sorry for keeping you hanging all these days, there were situations I couldn’t take total control of.

Notwithstanding , I am glad to write today and I hope we conclude this topic today but if not we can do it in the next post.

I really hope you are following me closely or should I just ask if this has been helpful in anyway? About four weeks ago I started talking about silent sexually transmitted diseases that can cause infertility if left untreated, in case you missed the first two posts read it here and here. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are important preventable causes of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility and I discussed GONORRHEA in the previous posts. COPING WITH STRESS IN NIGERIA

TGIF (I am practically dancing and you know why? I am going to get a whole lot of rest)

Hi guys, how are you all doing? if you missed my last post check here

Me I am just trying to be fine because these past few days have been extremely crazy for me!

The stress recently is like the one sent from hell to torment my enemy, lol.

Anyways, I am bouncing out of it with the help of studies and advise from friends.

Anyone living in Lagos and is not working from his/her room knows that the struggle is real!

Yes, stress is unavoidable (at least for some part of Nigeria) but the effect of stress on you and I can be avoided or reduced.

Stress can be beneficial by helping people develop the skills they need to cope with and adapt to new and potentially threatening situations in life.

Even though stress is beneficial ,the beneficial  aspects of stress is going to be less effective  when it is severe enough to overwhelm a person’s ability to take care of themselves and family.

 

 

WHAT IS STRESS EXACTLY?

According to the dictionary (Google) it’s a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

We all react to stressful situations differently, personally when I am stressed: I get angry, I become so irritable, I feel like quitting, I find it difficult making decisions too.

While some other people react by: Feeling sad, frustrated, and helpless, feeling guilty, disappointed, loss of appetite, poor sleep, alcohol consumption, smoking and  some people even cry.

But we all can cope with stress as long as we identify the cause(s) of our stress and we know what works for us.

Few tips that I just employed recently and they are working are:

  • I take care of myself (if you don’t take care of yourself, who will?)  by eating healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise on a regular basis, I get plenty of sleep especially during my weekend, I give myself a break whenever I  feel stressed out
  • Recognize your own relaxation activities: I like to just lie down, plug my ear piece and listen to good music or watching my favorite soap opera on zee world (lol)
  • Talk to others:  Share your problems and how you are feeling and coping with a parent, friend, counselor, health practitioners, or any spiritual leader/mentor.

I had to do this, I just pasted it on my IG that I need help when I was so stressed and I felt like giving up and people responded by giving me tips.

  • Avoid drugs and alcohol. Drugs and alcohol may seem to help with the stress. In the long run, they create additional problems and increase the stress you are already feeling.

I don’t drink alcohol or smoke but sometimes I just take carbonated drinks because I wouldn’t want to cook or eat proper food.

  • Learn to say no when necessary, not all request or invitation should be honored. You don’t have to attend every event please, whether it is celebration or seminar or conference that is not really necessary, save your strength to execute the things you have learnt so far.
  • Manage your time well, if possible write down your schedule and apportion time where and when necessary. Prioritize, seek help when necessary because the truth is, we cannot do it all alone. If you are a leader, delegate duty to people who can do it. Avoid multi-tasking if not necessary .

 

Take a break when you are ill, don’t wait till you break down. After all, you can’t function maximally/effectively when you are ill and your employer knows that too.

THINK ON THESE THINGS

Good morning and happy new week…

I hope you had a great weekend? in case you missed my last post, you can check here.

For a long time I used to be a negative person, I mean i always think negativity and I don’t miss out of any of my thought( that  is anything I think about always happen to me).

Be positive because positive minds produce positive lives.

If the devil can successfully take over your mind/thought, he has gained authority over your life.

And you know that, according to” proverbs 23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”

Be careful with your thought, spend time to check your thoughts, when things are not going well, pause to ask yourself; what have I being thinking about?

In case you are wondering, what then should i think about?

The word of God tells us what to think about, ” Philippians4 :8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

If the things you are thinking about doesn’t have the qualities mentioned above, you need to change your thoughts….

Meanwhile, what can probably have all the mentioned qualities?( pure, lovely,true,noble,right,admirable,excellent and praiseworthy) .Nothing but the word of GOD

Fill your mind with the word of God and watch your life undergo a drastic turnaround.

Good success is guaranteed by meditating on the word of God…Joshua 1:8 says so ( Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.)

THERE IS A RIGHT SIDE OF THE SEA

I was recently studying and the Lord told me that there is a right side of the sea…

The sea here is that BUSINESS, CAREER OR JOB that you have been doing all this while and you are not getting anything!

You have been casting your net, using all your energy, time and money but getting nothing just like peter and co…

The book of  JOHN 21:3-6   

” Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”

They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately[a] got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?”

They answered Him, “No.”

And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

They were able to catch multitudes of fish because they casted their net to the right side as instructed by Jesus .

Your hustling without Jesus is going to result into nothing, only Jesus knows the right side of the sea/ the business/career/job you are doing.

This is not a message for non Christians alone, it is also for we believers…

We have Jesus, just like Peter and co but Jesus wasn’t involved the night they went fishing and they caught nothing!!!

If you already have Jesus, involve Him in your hustling a, He will direct you on the right side if the sea , the part where you will make gain, and get plenty of fishes.

In case you are wondering that there are so many people who doesn’t involve Jesus and yet they are making gains, Plenty fishes doesn’t necessarily mean money, what of fulfillment, peace and joy  ?

There is a right side of the sea, only Jesus knows…

INVOLVE JESUS FOR MULTITUDE OF FISH…

I FELL IN LOVE WITH AS

Hello friends, it has really been a long while, no excuse I have just been very lazy.

I hope you are well?

I know you will be wondering why I am posting this, but I really need to talk about this.

I met a wonderful man who possess all the standard I have set to see in a man I will like to spend the rest of my life with, Godly: right standing! talk of looks: he is handsome! Intelligence: on point! and what a view….

We became friends, I liked him and its mutual…

Meanwhile, all the while I was in doubt of what my genotype  was because as a Child I was told I’m AA but I later checked by myself and they gave me different types of results at every Laboratory.

 Meeting him, we were talking and he mentioned that He has AS genotype… It was disheartening because we both doesn’t want to take the risk of having SS children in later life…

Long story short, I had to let it go but I must confess: it is really hard. The only assuring thing is that God is good and He will give me the best.

My point is this, the moment that guy proposed to be just friend, ask for the genotype  in case you have AS genotype or in case you are in doubt… or better still be sure of your genotype now even if you are not ready for any relationship…

Guy, if you are so sure you are AS please before you ask that babe out be sure of her genotype.

It was a painful decision to let go but it was a wise one… Mine is not the first case but I really wish singles can avoid heart breaks because of Medical issues.

SALT and YOUR HEALTH

Hello sweeties, hope you are doing great?

In my practice recently I discovered that we now have cases of hypertension and kidney failures in youths and young adults unlike before where these two diseases are found as a result of aging. And this is because our foods now as youth and young adults are not very suitable for our health.

Our bodies need a little amount of salt to survive, but the amount we eat is much more than we require. Evidence has shown that  regularly eating too much salt puts us at increased risk of developing high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the main cause of strokes and a major cause of heart attacks and heart failures, the most common causes of death and illness in the world.

What is salt?salt
By salt, we mean table salt, which is otherwise known as sodium chloride ( science students will know this). It is the biggest source of sodium in our diets and it’s this sodium that’s the problem in relation to blood pressure. But we do need some sodium in our diet to help regulate fluid in the body, it’s unusual for us not to get enough.

As good as salt is, there is a daily limit to the amount of sodium chloride (salt) we take,  1500 mg of sodium amounts to 0.75 teaspoons or 3.75 grams of salt per day, while 2300 mg amounts to one teaspoon or 6 grams of salt per day. Most people today are eating much more than that ( i do too) . The average intake of sodium is about 3400 mg, most of it coming from processed foods ( can you see that we really need to cut down our intake of processed and confectionery foods).

Many people unfortunately don’t realize they are eating too much salt. That is because about 75% of the salt in our diet comes from process foods.It’s not just in ready meals, soups and sauces, though – keep an eye on everyday foods such as breads and cereals, as well as sweet foods harboring a salty surprise. Foods don’t necessarily have to taste salty to be salty.  This is one of the reasons it can be tricky to reduce our salt intake, as it is often already in the foods we buy, and we can’t take it out.

EFFECT OF SALT ON THE KIDNEY2 much

Our body removes unwanted fluid by filtering blood through the kidney, via osmosis, to draw excess water out of your blood. This requires a balance of sodium and potassium to pull the water across the wall from the bloodstream into a collecting channel in the kidney. A high salt diet will alter this sodium balance, causing the kidneys to have reduced function and remove less water resulting in higher blood pressure. This puts strain on the kidneys and can lead to kidney disease.

A high salt intake has been shown to increase the amount of protein in the urine which is a major risk factor for the decline of kidney function. There is also increasing evidence that a high salt intake may increase deterioration of kidney disease in people already suffering from kidney problems.

Evidence has shown that a number of health conditions are caused by, or exacerbated by, a high salt diet. Although the strongest evidence is for the effect that a high salt diet has on blood pressure, stroke and heart disease, there is also a wide body of evidence indicating a link between salt consumption and other conditions.

Salt has been linked to:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Cardiovascular Disease (stroke, heart disease and heart failure)
  • Kidney Disease & Kidney Stones
  • Obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • Stomach Cancer
  • Water retention/bloating

Salt is also thought to exacerbate the symptoms of:

  • Diabetes
  • Meniere’s Disease
  • Asthma
  • Alzheimer’s

As much as possible, substitute salt with other flavors, sweetener that has low salt content.

God is ready to satisfy us with long life (psalm91:16), we should do our part by eating right!!!

THE EVIL CALLED CANCER

Hello sweeties,

Happy new month and I hope your January was a good start?

It was world cancer day on 4th of February (Saturday), I hope few of us got screened ? like females should check for ( breast or cervical cancer et all) and males ( prostate cancer , lungs etc).

According to WHO (World Health Organisation), Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, and was responsible for 8.8 million deaths in 2015. Globally, nearly 1 in 6 deaths is due to cancer.

What is Cancer?

In a simple term, Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division/ growth of abnormal cells in a part of the body leading to increase cell mass with a potential to invade normal cells and metastasize to other distant cells/organs.

Cancers exist in different types according to the cell affected or the organs affected. The symptoms of cancer depends on the area affected but few of the symptoms can include:

  • Persistent, unexplained fevers or night sweats
  • Persistent, unexplained muscle or joint pain
  • Persistent indigestion or discomfort after eating
  • Hoarseness
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Persistent cough or trouble breathing
  • Changes in bowel or bladder habits
  • Skin changes, such as yellowing, darkening or redness of the skin, sores that won’t heal, or changes to existing moles
  • Weight changes, including unintended loss or gain
  • Lump or area of thickening that can be felt under the skin
  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained bleeding or bruising .

if you notice any of the above symptom you need to see your healthcare provider immediately ( no procrastination).

According to WHO, Cancer arises from the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells in a multistage process that generally progresses from a pre-cancerous lesion to a malignant tumor. These changes are the result of the interaction between a person’s genetic factors and 3 categories of external agents, including:

  • physical carcinogens, such as ultraviolet and ionizing radiation;
  • chemical carcinogens, such as asbestos, components of tobacco smoke, aflatoxin (a food contaminant), and arsenic (a drinking water contaminant); and
  • biological carcinogens, such as infections from certain viruses, bacteria, or parasites.

Ageing is another fundamental factor for the development of cancer. The incidence of cancer rises dramatically with age.

There are other things that can put one at the risk of developing cancer, some of the risk factors includes:

  • AGE: Cancer is more common in older adults though it can be diagnosed at any age.
  • LIFESTYLE: such as diet, smoking, drinking (excessively), obesity, excessive exposure to sun, unsafe sex habit etc
  • FAMILY HISTORY: Some cancers are hereditary i.e if there has been an occurrence in the family ( maybe parents), the genes can be passed on to the next generation
  • ENVIRONMENT: in case you are staying in an area where there is a constant release of harmful chemical substances, living with with a smoker, or working in an industry such as asbestos and benzene.

even though  there is nothing you can do to prevent an hereditary   cancer, an early detection will go a long way in the treatment of cancer.

Between 30–50% of cancers can currently be prevented. This can be accomplished by avoiding risk factors and implementing existing evidence-based prevention strategies. The cancer burden can also be reduced through early detection of cancer and management. Many cancers have a high chance of cure if diagnosed early and treated adequately.

HELLO: IT’S BEEN A WHILE

happy new  year guys (lol) , I hope it’s not too late. Don’t mind me, I’m a Yoruba babe and we can greet for africa even in the middle of the year ( so far it’s our first meeting of the year).

I know some of us { if not all} would have a well written new year resolutions be it for their spiritual life, business, relationships, career or academics etc. But how many people planned about how they are going to manage their health? Well, maybe few of us.

When in actual sense, if a man is not healthy he can not carry out any other plans or achieve any other goal(s). You don’t have to fall sick or discover a disease/disorder before you visit an hospital. You can go to an Hospital for GENERAL MEDICAL EVALUATION

 GENERAL MEDICAL EVALUATION is simply: a common form of preventive medicine which involves an healthy individual visiting a general practitioner on a REGULAR BASIS. It is usually yearly, but you can also do it twice or at the beginning/end of each quarter.

Basically the test are many but there are few ones that wont take much of your time and money, such as:

Inspection of your ears and eyes, check your vital signs ( temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure).

check your HEIGHT, WEIGHT and calculate your BMI (body mass index) to avoid obesity because, obesity can predispose us to different kind of illnesses such as DIABETES MELITUS, HYPERTENSION etc.

For women, do breast examination ( to discover any abnormality early), go for cervical screening test (for detection of cervical cancer), check your Cholesterol level and a whole lot to mention.

Men should also visit hospital for check up too.

Remember, there are a lot of things you can prevent by eating HEALTHY DIETS and MAINTAINING A GOOD PERSONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE!

Lest I forget, DO NOT PATRONISE QUACKS, MAKE SURE YOU VISIT LICENSED HEALTH PRACTITIONERS .

DO NOT DO SELF-MEDICATION, VISIT THE HOSPITAL!

Have an healthy 2017, with good health intact there is a lot you can achieve.

LITTLE TINGS COUNT pt 3

Do you remember Titilayo? in case you missed the previous episodes, check the part 1   here and the part 2 here.

OK, back to the consulting room… Titilayo and her husband came back after series of diagnostic investigations.

Madam, since when have you noticed those symptoms ? the doctor asked.

“well, I really can not remember vividly but I know it has been a long time . it relieves me after taking medications and I didn’t  cognizance of it, moreover, I was told its normal to have cramps  before or during your period. ” she answered the doctor.

“from all the results and scan, we discovered you are suffering from ENDOMETRIOSIS” the doctor told her. ENDO- WHAT? What is that?

 

Endometriosis is the abnormal growth of cells (endometrial cells) similar to those that form the inside of the uterus, but in a location outside of the uterus, the doctor explained .

“what could be the cause of that? tell us more doctor” they both requested!

Endometriosis is more common in women who are experiencing infertility than in women who are  fertile , but that doesn’t mean infertility can cause endometriosis. Most women with endometriosis have no symptoms, but few women experience symptoms such as:

pelvic pain that may worsen during menstruation

painful sexual intercourse

Painful bowel movements or urination

Infertility.

Other symptoms that can be related to endometriosis include:

  • lower abdominal pain
  • diarrhea/constipation
  • chronic fatigue
  • irregular or heavy menstruation,

HA!  they both exclaimed… except for the painful bowel movements , I experienced all of the symptoms which i was too busy and brushed it aside, she lamented!

Endometriosis can be one of the reasons for infertility for healthy couples. When laparoscopic examinations are performed during evaluations for infertility, implants are often found in individuals who are totally asymptomatic. If the ovaries and Fallopian tubes are involved, the mechanical processes involved in the transfer of fertilized eggs into the tubes may be altered. Alternatively, the endometriotic lesions may produce inflammatory substances which adversely affect ovulation, fertilization, and implantation, thus it will be hard to conceive.

BUT  what could be the cause of this endometriosis pls? she asked.

The cause of endometriosis is unknown. One theory is that the endometrial tissue is deposited in unusual locations by the retrograde flow of menstrual debris through the Fallopian tubes into the pelvic and abdominal cavities. The cause of this retrograde menstruation is not clearly understood. It is clear that retrograde menstruation is not the only cause of endometriosis, as many women who have retrograde menstruation do not develop the condition.

the moment you noticed one of these signs/symptoms, you should visit your hospital, no pain is normal!

LITTLE THINGS COUNT pt2

Titilayo woke up one morning with a strong abdominal cramp, she got up, she remembered that her menstrual shed was going to commence today but she wondered why she was experiencing the pain. but because she was going for a meeting scheduled for that morning, she grabbed the remaining pain relief  in her bag, she took it and prepared for work. Soon she forgot she had any pain earlier and she went about her daily activities.

Ten years passed, Titi and her husband remained unbothered about their childlessness but Titi’s mother in law will not allow them to rest. “Titi, I hope you are doing something about this your inability to get pregnant, if you don’t do something in the next six month I’m getting another woman for my son. I will not allow you to destroy this family”… she shouted on top of her voice and left angrily.

Adewale and Titilayo remained silent for minutes before Dewale finally broke the silence “Titi, you know I love you? I am not bothered about mama’s reaction but don’t you think we need to visit the gynecologist? for about five years now we’ve not been making love as we ought to”, I will book an appointment with the doctor this week, she cut in….

Early on that Monday morning, she went to their family hospital to see a gynecologist but she met a long queue and she couldn’t wait because she had a bunch of files to check and sign on her table in the office. she left in a hurry, she forgot about the appointment and she continued her work routine. “Titi, how long will you cherish your job than your marriage? we can’t continue like this, I hope you know?”. Honey, you know I’m working on getting my promotion, let it click and I will now have the time. pls try and understand hunnie.

Few weeks later, Titi got her letter of promotion she has been working hard for… honey, I have a good news for you!” you are pregnant? Demola asked. no now, I have been promoted ” it was obvious that she was happy that evening but her husband was not really excited…..

Titi, can we now book an appointment  with your doctor now that you have been promoted ? she answered immediately. ” why not dear, we will go there, first thing tomorrow morning.

early the following morning they are already in the doctors office. they had conversation with the doctor and he asked them to go for series of test, scan and the likes. shortly the results were ready and they were back in the consulting room where Titi and Demola received the greatest shock of her life….
