MY EXPERIENCE THE LAST VISIT TO THE THRONE-ROOM

Haha , have you ever been in this my tight corner?

I was literally begin God and praying that God should just allow little to just come out (lol).

My last visit to the throne room was not pleasant at all and I know you might have been there too or if you have not been there you can prevent it!

By now, I know you would have been wondering what is throne room exactly?

The throne room in a simple term is the toilet [ lol].

So I was in the toilet for about 30 minutes struggling to pass stool, meanwhile it has been three days prior to that time I visited the toilet because anytime I have the urge I’d go but nothing was coming out until few minutes ago when I had to face my fear…

So what is CONSTIPATION?consti.jpg

It is the inability to pass stool frequently or straining when passing stool due to hard stool.

When you go more than 3 days straight without emptying your bowel it’s a sign that you are constipated.

Or when you have difficulty in passing stool it’s another sign of constipation.

Or when you feel like you have not emptied your bowel completely (feeling of incomplete evacuation).

Sometimes it comes with swollen belly or lower abdominal pain.

Either way, it’s not a pleasant feeling and it can be prevented.

Sometimes it’s not a big deal, but another time it could be very dangerous depending on the cause.

Few of the causes (ranging from minor to major) include:

  • Eating disorders( abnormal/disturbed eating habits such as anorexia nervosa)
  • Not being active
  • Eating a lot of dairy products e.g. butter, ice creams, cakes, milk etc .
  • Lack of diet rich in fiber such as oat meal/ wheat (fiber is not a joke if you must have a free flow in the throne-room).
  • Lack or inadequate water or fluid intake.
  • Delay in emptying your bowel when you have the urge to do so.
  • Pregnancy ( in women)
  • Stress
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Parkinson disease
  • Colon cancer.
  • There could be other cause; the above is just few….

If you have found a cause among the above listed causes of CONSTIPATION then you will know what to do in order to prevent it.

PREVENTING MEASURES YOU CAN EMPLOY ARE:

  • Drink water regularly ( before you can have over dose of water it would be long)
  • Drink warm water/milk in the morning
  • Make sure you include fruits and vegetables to your diet.
  • Eat roughages and fibers ( e.g. oat meal and wheat)
  • Do regular exercise (remember inactivity can cause constipation)
  • If after doing the afore mentioned preventive measures, you still have constipation, you might need to take mild laxatives/stool softeners or visit the hospital.

Don’t wait till you are constipated to start taking measures, start it now!!!

Feel free to read, comment, ask questions and share with friends.

Have a great weekend.

SALT and YOUR HEALTH

Hello sweeties, hope you are doing great?

In my practice recently I discovered that we now have cases of hypertension and kidney failures in youths and young adults unlike before where these two diseases are found as a result of aging. And this is because our foods now as youth and young adults are not very suitable for our health.

Our bodies need a little amount of salt to survive, but the amount we eat is much more than we require. Evidence has shown that  regularly eating too much salt puts us at increased risk of developing high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the main cause of strokes and a major cause of heart attacks and heart failures, the most common causes of death and illness in the world.

What is salt?salt
By salt, we mean table salt, which is otherwise known as sodium chloride ( science students will know this). It is the biggest source of sodium in our diets and it’s this sodium that’s the problem in relation to blood pressure. But we do need some sodium in our diet to help regulate fluid in the body, it’s unusual for us not to get enough.

As good as salt is, there is a daily limit to the amount of sodium chloride (salt) we take,  1500 mg of sodium amounts to 0.75 teaspoons or 3.75 grams of salt per day, while 2300 mg amounts to one teaspoon or 6 grams of salt per day. Most people today are eating much more than that ( i do too) . The average intake of sodium is about 3400 mg, most of it coming from processed foods ( can you see that we really need to cut down our intake of processed and confectionery foods).

Many people unfortunately don’t realize they are eating too much salt. That is because about 75% of the salt in our diet comes from process foods. It’s not just in ready meals, soups and sauces, though – keep an eye on everyday foods such as breads and cereals, as well as sweet foods harboring a salty surprise. Foods don’t necessarily have to taste salty to be salty.  This is one of the reasons it can be tricky to reduce our salt intake, as it is often already in the foods we buy, and we can’t take it out.

EFFECT OF SALT ON THE KIDNEY2 much

Our body removes unwanted fluid by filtering blood through the kidney, via osmosis, to draw excess water out of your blood. This requires a balance of sodium and potassium to pull the water across the wall from the bloodstream into a collecting channel in the kidney. A high salt diet will alter this sodium balance, causing the kidneys to have reduced function and remove less water resulting in higher blood pressure. This puts strain on the kidneys and can lead to kidney disease.

A high salt intake has been shown to increase the amount of protein in the urine which is a major risk factor for the decline of kidney function. There is also increasing evidence that a high salt intake may increase deterioration of kidney disease in people already suffering from kidney problems.

Evidence has shown that a number of health conditions are caused by, or exacerbated by, a high salt diet. Although the strongest evidence is for the effect that a high salt diet has on blood pressure, stroke and heart disease, there is also a wide body of evidence indicating a link between salt consumption and other conditions.

Salt has been linked to:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Cardiovascular Disease (stroke, heart disease and heart failure)
  • Kidney Disease & Kidney Stones
  • Obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • Stomach Cancer
  • Water retention/bloating

Salt is also thought to exacerbate the symptoms of:

  • Diabetes
  • Meniere’s Disease
  • Asthma
  • Alzheimer’s

As much as possible, substitute salt with other flavors, sweetener that has low salt content.

God is ready to satisfy us with long life (psalm91:16), we should do our part by eating right!!!

happy world RENAL DAY!!!

With love from me,

ADENIKE OLADIMEJI.

HELLO: IT’S BEEN A WHILE

hello

happy new  year guys (lol) , I hope it’s not too late. Don’t mind me, I’m a Yoruba babe and we can greet for africa even in the middle of the year ( so far it’s our first meeting of the year).

I know some of us { if not all} would have a well written new year resolutions be it for their spiritual life, business, relationships, career or academics etc. But how many people planned about how they are going to manage their health? Well, maybe few of us.

When in actual sense, if a man is not healthy he can not carry out any other plans or achieve any other goal(s). You don’t have to fall sick or discover a disease/disorder before you visit an hospital. You can go to an Hospital for GENERAL MEDICAL EVALUATION

GENERAL MEDICAL EVALUATION is simply: a common form of preventive medicine which involves an healthy individual visiting a general practitioner on a REGULAR BASIS. It is usually yearly, but you can also do it twice or at the beginning/end of each quarter.

Basically the test are many but there are few ones that wont take much of your time and money, such as:

Inspection of your ears and eyes, check your vital signs ( temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure).

check your HEIGHT, WEIGHT and calculate your BMI (body mass index) to avoid obesity because, obesity can predispose us to different kind of illnesses such as DIABETES MELITUS, HYPERTENSION etc.

For women, do breast examination ( to discover any abnormality early), go for cervical screening test (for detection of cervical cancer), check your Cholesterol level and a whole lot to mention.

Men should also visit hospital for check up too.

Remember, there are a lot of things you can prevent by eating HEALTHY DIETS and MAINTAINING A GOOD PERSONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE!

Lest I forget, DO NOT PATRONISE QUACKS, MAKE SURE YOU VISIT LICENSED HEALTH PRACTITIONERS .

DO NOT DO SELF-MEDICATION, VISIT THE HOSPITAL!

Have an healthy 2017, with good health intact there is a lot you can achieve.

LOTS OF LOVE

ADENIKE OLADIMEJI

XOXO

LITTLE THINGS COUNT pt2

Titilayo woke up one morning with a strong abdominal cramp, she got up, she remembered that her menstrual shed was going to commence today but she wondered why she was experiencing the pain. but because she was going for a meeting scheduled for that morning, she grabbed the remaining pain relief  in her bag, she took it and prepared for work. Soon she forgot she had any pain earlier and she went about her daily activities.

Ten years passed, Titi and her husband remained unbothered about their childlessness but Titi’s mother in law will not allow them to rest. “Titi, I hope you are doing something about this your inability to get pregnant, if you don’t do something in the next six month I’m getting another woman for my son. I will not allow you to destroy this family”… she shouted on top of her voice and left angrily.

Adewale and Titilayo remained silent for minutes before Dewale finally broke the silence “Titi, you know I love you? I am not bothered about mama’s reaction but don’t you think we need to visit the gynecologist? for about five years now we’ve not been making love as we ought to”, I will book an appointment with the doctor this week, she cut in….

Early on that Monday morning, she went to their family hospital to see a gynecologist but she met a long queue and she couldn’t wait because she had a bunch of files to check and sign on her table in the office. she left in a hurry, she forgot about the appointment and she continued her work routine. “Titi, how long will you cherish your job than your marriage? we can’t continue like this, I hope you know?”. Honey, you know I’m working on getting my promotion, let it click and I will now have the time. pls try and understand hunnie.

Few weeks later, Titi got her letter of promotion she has been working hard for… honey, I have a good news for you!” you are pregnant? Demola asked. no now, I have been promoted ” it was obvious that she was happy that evening but her husband was not really excited…..

Titi, can we now book an appointment  with your doctor now that you have been promoted ? she answered immediately. ” why not dear, we will go there, first thing tomorrow morning.

early the following morning they are already in the doctors office. they had conversation with the doctor and he asked them to go for series of test, scan and the likes. shortly the results were ready and they were back in the consulting room where Titi and Demola received the greatest shock of her life….

to be continued….
